Mulhuddart (MCYP) was set up in 2001 to involve young people from Mulhuddart in activities, programs and groups that enhance their personal development and enable them to contribute to the growth and development of their community. MCYP engages approx. 300 young people aged 10-18 years old and the Project staff and local voluntary youth leaders recruited by the Project staff organize this.
Initiatives MCYP run include summer programs, after-schools groups, sports groups, computer clubs, art & crafts groups, cooking groups, youth cafe’s, establishment of voluntary youth groups and support services to existing youth groups. In addition to this, we run annualized educational programs such as Relationships & Sexuality, Health & Well being and Albert Schweitzer’s Leadership for Life and NFTE. The outreach workers specifically target young people aged 14-18 years old who find it difficult to engage and who are more at risk. The various educational and recreational programs we provide help young people to deal with issues associated with poverty, social exllusion, under-achievement at school, early school leaving, youth crime, substance abuse and family difficulties in a safe friendly environment.
The objectives of Foroige MCYP are:
- To enable young people to reach their full potential and to contribute meaningfully to their community
- To enable young people to learn essential life skills such as team work, personal and responsibility and communication skills
- To facilitate young people to access opportunities, try new activities and visit new places to broaden their life experiences
- To support young people to achieve, whether that is in formal education or a different sphere i.e. sport, community, personal etc.
- To build positive relationships between young people from different estates / areas and from different cultures / nationalities in a safe environment
- To provide young people with an advocacy voice at the Dublin 15 table
- To provide young people with a platform to celebrate their achievements both locally and nationally
